ATELIER 75 WINDOW DISPLAY

In collaboration with Isabel Ogden.

Completed the design and installation of a window display for Atelier 75’s Autumn/Winter Collection in 2019. Found on New Cavendish Street in the heart of London, atelier75 specialises in womenswear and accessories sourced from British, European and Japanese designers. The window display was designed to take advantage of a grid structure situated on the ceiling above the window and sought to present a display that enveloped the mannequins that hung in the windows. The display utilised a series of 24 shapes synonymous with Autumn and Winter including an array of leaves and twigs, mushrooms, acorns, conkers and seasonal root vegetables.

These shapes were then multiplied and scaled in order to create an collection of different shapes that were then cut out of a deep red card using a vinyl cutter on site. During the process of the cutting, the shapes were then strung onto a thin fishing wire that was tied to the grid. The process behind creating the display was intended to grow in volume and be reasonably organic in its form, with decisions on heights and density being decided on site while installing. In this sense, the processes behind the installation were as important as the eventual result. The window display manifested as a mass of warm red that offset against the cool interior of the store. Its 3-dimensionality and depth allowing an engagement with the customer both externally and internally. The use of thin lines of fishing wire allowed for the gentle sway and movement of the mass as a whole, adding a movement to the form synonymous to autumnal wind through trees. The display took a day to install and occupied the space for 2 months.
